HalloHallo Inc. to Open Japan-Themed Commercial Space in Manila
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Philippine entertainment company HalloHallo Inc. announced last week that it has signed a deal to form a joint venture Mitsubishi Corp. and real estate firm Ayala Land and develop a Japan-themed commercial space at the Glorietta mall complex. The space will include a performance venue for MNL48, the Manila-based spinoff of the AKB48 idol group, where they will perform twice a week.
The space will be located on the rooftop of the Glorietta mall complex in Makati. HalloHallo Inc. will curate the vendors and shops for the space, which will focus on Japanese cuisine, entertainment, and anime. The commercial space will have a differing "day" and "night" theme. The space is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2017.
The MNL48 spinoff group was officially established in March 2016, alongside similar Taipei- and Bangkok-based spinoff groups. BNK48, the group based in Bangkok, debuted on June 2.
HalloHallo Inc. previously revealed plans to open a "Cool Japan Mall" in 2017. At the time of the announcement, the mall was planned to contain an Animate store. Since the announcement, HalloHallo Inc. opened a Cool Japan Store at the SM Light Mall in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila in June 2016. HalloHallo Inc. is building the mall in cooperation with the Cool Japan Fund.
