This year's 30th issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine revealed on Thursday that the live-action television series adaptation of Yū Suzunoki's Kōnodori (The Stork) manga is getting a sequel series. The series will premiere on TBS in October.
The returning cast includes Gō Ayano as Sakura Kōnotori, Mayu Matsuoka as Kae Shimoya, Yō Yoshida as Rumiko Komatsu, Gen Hoshino as Haruki Shinomiya, Kentarō Sakaguchi as Eri Shirakawa, and Nao Ōmori as Takayuki Imahashi.
The new series is set two years after the first series, and will include more stories based on the original manga.
Suzunoki's original manga centers around obstetrician Sakura Kōnotori, who is also a jazz pianist by night. The manga depicts his life and the lives of the resident doctors and medical interns in the OB/GYN department that Kōnotori leads.
The first series premiered on TBS in October 2015. Nobuhiro Doi (Season of the Sun, Nemuri no Mori) and Fuminori Kaneko (Ikebukuro West Gate Park) directed the first series, and Mutsumi Yamamoto wrote the scripts. Shinya Kiyozuka supervised the piano themes, and miwa performed the theme song.
Suzunoki launched the manga in Kodansha's Morning magazine in August 2012. Kodansha published the manga's 17th compiled book volume on March 23, and will publish the 18th volume on Friday.
