posted on by Rachel Mahoney
Online retailer Right Stuf lists a Media Blasters DVD release of the Holy Knight original video anime and 009-1: The End of the Beginning live-action film. According to the listings, the OVA is subtitled-only and will ship on October 14 for US$12.99 and the live-action film will ship on October 28 for US$14.99.
Japanese production company CAMMOT adapted Maya Miyazaki's Holy Knight manga into an anime and released it on Blu-Ray in March 2012.
Project H published the manga in English in March and describes the story:
The ordinary school life of Shinta Mizumura was turned upside down by the sudden intrusion of the mysterious and beautiful Lilith Kishimoto, with her crimson eyes and long, crimson hair. This encounter is merely the beginning of it all. These hopelessly, entangled threads of fate from the distant past, now begins to unravel…
009-1: The End of the Beginning is listed as part of Media Blaster's Tokyo Shock label. 009-1: The End of the Beginning is based on the science-fiction action manga 009-1 by the late pioneer Shōtarō Ishinomori. Kōichi Sakamoto (Power Rangers, Daikaijū Battle: Ultra Ginga Densetsu The Movie) directed the film and Mayuko Iwasa (Detective Conan's Sonoko Suzuki, live-action Nodame Cantabile's Reina Ishikawa) stars as the titular cyborg agent Mylene "009-1" Hoffman.
The story is set in a world where the Cold War never ended, and the solitary cyborg agent 009-1 operates in the violent skirmishes waged between the two factions. The live-action film recreates not only the manga's gun battles, but also 009-1's signature "breast guns."
The film opened in Japan on September 7.
