Zombie Land Saga Releases Crossover Illustration with Vinland Saga
posted on by Kim Morrissy
It's been a running joke in the Japanese fandom that the viking-themed manga Vinland Saga sounds like the zombie idol comedy anime Zombie Land Saga due to the fact they have similar pronunciations in Japanese ("Binrando Saga" vs "Zon Birando Saga"). On Sunday, Zombie Land Saga's Twitter account made reference to this joke explicitly by apologizing for "causing convenience to the manga creator Makoto Yukimura" and posting a collaboration illustration to commemorate the Vinland Saga anime's debut.

The Zombie Land Saga anime premiered on October 4. The anime follows Sakura Minamoto, who dreams of being an idol, but is hit by a car and wakes up as a zombie. A man named Kōtarō Tatsumi appears and tells her he's recruiting her into an idol group made up of zombies, dead girls he has "recruited" from several eras of Japanese history.
Vinland Saga premiered with the first three episodes on Sunday. The story follows the viking Thorfinn, son to one of the Vikings' greatest warriors. When his father is killed in battle by the mercenary leader Askeladd, he swears to have his revenge. Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band in order to challenge him to a duel, and ends up caught in the middle of a war for the crown of England.
