Super Retro Boy All-In-One Game Boy Console Put on Indefinite Hold
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
A recent Nintendo trademark has squashed a third-party video game console, at least for now. Retro-Bit put the brakes on its Super Retro Boy player, previously touted at CES 2017 as compatible with Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games and boasting a 10 hour battery life. The handheld console was set for release sometime in August, but that window has come and gone.
Retro-Bit told Nintendo Life writer Damien McFerran that there is no definite release date for the Super Retro Boy until the company can figure out how to release it without getting into legal hot water with Nintendo.
The hold seems like a smart move, as Nintendo has never been shy about protecting its IP. The company has previously shutdown fan creations based on Pokemon, Metroid, Zelda, and Mario. The company has also started feeding into its large nostalgia market by re-releasing its Nintendo Entertainment System.
