Okonomiyaki Chain Lets Customers Eat Their Own Gudetama Dishes
posted on by Bamboo Dong
Sanrio's strangely adorable mascot Gudetama has amassed a large following in Japan, with a plethora of character goods, animated shorts, prepackaged conbini snacks, and even a pop-up cafe. Now hungry diners can lap up his chronically dejected face on top of freshly prepared okonomiyaki at Dohtonbori, a Japanese chain restaurant that specializes in the dish.
The special menu, which is being offered until mid-June, lets diners choose from okonomiyaki, monjayaki with scrambled eggs and a bacon blanket, stir-fried udon noodles mixed with raw egg, and a beef tendon rice bowl. Since the food is assembled at the table by the customer, it allows for a variety of customizations.
In order to recreate that precious look of ennui, customers must apply an edible sticker on top of the egg yolk.
