Hiroshi Motomiya originally ended Gaki Daisho after Chapter 88 (Volume 11) with Mankichi being stabbed by a wooden spear at the base of Mt. Fuji. However, the manga's sheer popularity kept that from happening, & then-Editor-in-Chief Shigeo Nishimura admitted in his memoir that he used correction fluid to remove Motomiya's "End" kanji & the spear actually stabbing Mankichi before publication. After a four-issue hiatus, Gaki Daisho resumed serialization with a new story arc.
Motomiya was so disappointed with everything he did after Chapter 88, though, that he prevented re-releases of anything beyond Volume 11 of Gaki Daisho, even up through the manga's digital re-release. This would last until 2018, when Motomiya finally allowed Volumes 12 to 20 to see re-release as part of Shonen Jump's 50th Anniversary.
