Really now? I was under the impression that the GITS movie, TV series and OVAs we're all of separate continuities

They are technically fascinating, but there's so little to grasp onto emotionally here.

They are, but if you ignore the crap that is 2nd Gig, Arise fits pretty well in with SAC.

Unless you're fluent in Japanese, I definitely recommend the dub. Far too much text, intrigue, and visual detail to follow everything on screen.

Yeah the synopsis is wrong Arise is it's own separate universe and the Movie, plus Stand Alone Complex TV series are not cannon with one another.
If you watch it closely and remember the previous franchises they give concrete evidence that it's a reboot of the series this time taking place before Section 9 is officially formed.

Apparently I wasn't clear in the synopsis, then, as it was never my intent to imply that they were all in the same continuity. (This is something that I do clarify in the main body of the review.) However, it is fact that, based on the dates when the events in each continuity take place, the events of Arise are two years earlier than any other content.

2nd Gig can't be crap, because it's got Sakakibara Yoshiko providing one of the voices. As far as story ... , I can't say because I haven't finished it. I don't even remember how many 2nd Gig episodes I watched long, long ago. I bought the Manga/Bandai DTS DVDs while they were being released, and I'll rebuy a nice Blu-ray set that includes English subtitles. Maybe I'm waiting for Blu-ray to finish watching the series? Hmm...
I have been buying the Arise import BDs via Funi/TRSI as they've been released, but I still haven't watched the second and third OVAs.

I always thought most people preferred 2nd Gig over 1st Gig. I'm glad I'm not the only one who greatly prefers the first season.

Just a heads up. Apparently it is a flimsy paper box as opposed to Funimation's typical thick-ish LE boxes.

2nd Gig was more awesome than 1st Gig.
Dessa prolly just didn't like it for whatever reason.

Yup.
Pricing also seem to have, ahem, arisen to $29.99 for it at trsi.

Nope. 2nd Gig is a big part of why SAC is in my all time favorites list. I think Dessa is in the extreme minority.
