And with that the future of console gaming dies, they will start to care less and less about the fans who support them.

I'm more surprised it's taken them this long considering how invested in mobile gaming Japan already is. I don't think there is much to worry about though since Sony can't afford to abandon consoles on a whim when the PlayStation division seemingly has carried the rest of Sony on its back for a while now.
They could be going the Nintendo way of things where the companies like Niantic are kept pretty distant. For all we know they could just let people develop mobile games based on some of their franchises.

I am at pains to think of any endeavour, business-related or otherwise, in which it is a sensible idea to get into something 'aggressively'. This is one of those cases of a concept which becomes steadily worse the more one thinks about it.

Only if the fans start to care less and less about them. It's always mutual. The PlayStation brand is doing exceedingly well presently, and there is no reason to forecast the death of console gaming (that has gotten old 10 years ago anyway; I honstly find it rather tiresome to read such statements), especially since console gaming and mobile gaming can coexist perfectly well at the moment, and there's no sign that will change anytime soon.

Not to mention how quickly their "adopting" of mobile dies off once their first Pokemon Go knockoff turns out not to be the Next Pokemon Go like they hoped...
They didn't exactly go in with complex motives, after all.

Even if Sony backed out of the Console market in 5 years time (hypothetically), there's been several attempts by small time companies to enter the console market. By reducing the number of large companies as competition could open up for the smaller ones to try and re-enter the market again.
Cut the head off one, more will replace it. We just can't verify the quality of what replaces it unfortunately.

With so many Final Fantasy mobile games out you think they'd get the hint a while ago.

Sony's main goal as a public corporation is to profit from their efforts. The people that support Sony are the people who help Sony remain profitable.
Sony will only abandon the console market if the console market is no longer profitable. If the mobile market is more profitable than the console market, then that is the market that will have more of Sony's attention.
Your definition of "support" lacks significant context.

Can't say I see this being a game changing move on sony's part. It's next to impossible to deliberately create mega-hits like pokemon go, and the only times you can is usually with the backing of an ip like, well, pokemon.
I'm sure sony will find moderate success, but if they're expecting pokemon go money to rain down from the heavens upon them they're probably going to be sorely disappointed. As for us console gamers, honestly I doubt we'll see much change on our front. Sony's always been a console developer first and a game publisher second.

It's not the first time Sony suddenly decided to follow in Nintendo's footsteps. They poo-pooed the Wii's motion controls until it sold gangbusters--then they came out with Playsation Move. The DS was a joke... until they decided to give the Vita two touchscreens.
For all its success, Sony has an odd habit of looking over its shoulder to see what Nintendo is writing on the test paper, even if it doesn't always work even for Nintendo. (Remember, everyone was pushing really hard for 3D until after the 3DS came out and everyone discovered 3D wasn't the license to print money they thought it would be.)

Sony does everything obnoxiously aggressively so I don't think they really needed to clarify that. Nothing good comes of this and the exploitation level should be legendary I know that much and they're probably going to make incidents like Granblue Fantasies look like nothing a few years from now.

It's kind of like with their anime deviation where if it's an original that just copy things that were successful for Bandai and Sunrise or find out whatever is trending and immediately snatch up the anime rights and get A-1 to crank out an adaptation and immediately brag about it like they did something awesome already. Their marketing has a habit of obnoxiously getting ahead of itself and declaring something the "greatest" whatever immediately upon announcement. It takes two to tango though and there are plenty of hype mongers that always come through and give them money no matter how much they bungle the PR on things in the long run.
Their corporate ideology is also really weird, seemingly kind of spiteful and built around this image of having to be "number 1" in any given market. It's like they absolutely can't stand anytime one of their more direct competitors has some form of major success (the whole point where Nintendo's stock rose above Sony's must have really freaked them out) and rather than look at their own situation will rush into a market just to try to get an equal or greater slice of the pie and try to fudge them over somehow in the process. At least that's the impression I get from the Hirai era of the company.
Like I said I just see so little coming of this and I still figure we have a major scandal in the first 5 years. Sony rushed into anime and IMO mucked up a lot of things in this industry, rushed into a Ghostbusters remake, didn't want to give back the Spiderman license out of spite because they knew Marvel could do better than them with the brand, is rushing into VR and now mobile gaming.

Nintendo is pretty good at creating fads, but fads fade. If Sony hasn't figure that out by now, then I can't say I'll feel very sorry for them when their "aggressive" approach leads to financial losses.

Because that worked so well last time. Remember that Android phone with a PS controller that flipped out?

To be fair that was in the early days of Android but things are a lot better now in terms of power and the fact you can connect the DS3/4 to your Xperia without rooting.
This could just be Sony sowing the seeds of survival taking making it easier to turn the playstation brand from a console to a platform like Steam.
